Behind The Lens: Josh Morton Music (Part Deux)

How did your journey in music begin, and what inspired you to pursue a career in the industry?

I started writing raps in 1997. My brothers, J.O. on the Track and Leon and I, were always jammin to Bone Thugs, 2Pac and Biggie. We all were pretty good at rapping, so for me, I just never stopped.

Can you tell us about your musical style and the genres that influence your work?

Just rap and hiphop in general. All rap is the same to me. I know they have trap and drill and all that but I'll spit to any beat I feel could be a hit. Im also inspired by R&B here and there. I came up listening to 90's R&B.

What's the story behind your latest release, and what message or emotion are you trying to convey through your music?

My latest release was The Greatest. It's an inspirational story about how I grew up strong, coming from nothing, was encouraged and taught by family, and aim to be the greatest.

How do you approach the songwriting process? Do you have a specific method or routine?

I don't have a specific go-to method. Sometimes there's a rhythm in my head that sets the tempo of the beat I make and if it goes hard, I write to it and aim for a hit. Other times I browse exclusive beats and may purchase it and wrote a hit.

What challenges have you faced as an emerging artist, and how have you overcome them?

I can think of to great challenges. 1 is money, period. It's a business and you have to have working capital. I just do anything I can to build my working capital, invest money, and time into it. 2 is people. Theres so many opinions and vybes, both good and bad. I just keep to Positivity, Productivity, and Fun. If they're contributing to either, cool. If not, I'm out, like the Sagittarius that I am.

Are there any artists or bands that have had a significant impact on your musical journey?

Dirty U.A. my bro I been rockin with for the last 12 years. He has inspired my growth as a lyricist. We've dropped 3 albums together in addition to my other albums. He's a great judge of rap because he's. Also, my wife, she knows how to read music and keeps my rhythm in check. I love it lol.

How do you stay creative and inspired when working on new music?

It's ingrained in my mind and I can't go too long without creating. Even if I don't have a concept, usually the beat will present a vybe I simply put into words. Or I think of a topic that's real or inspiring.

Can you share a memorable moment or highlight from your career so far?

A memorable moment would be meeting DJ Slyce at 88.7 FM KAZI. Since meeting him, I'm all over local ATX radio. Aiming to spread to national.

What one inspirational quote or montra you believe in?

Phillipians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

In what ways do you use social media and online platforms to connect with your audience and where can people connect with you?

I use every aspect if social media and website streaming sites on all platforms. That includesbProfiles, Pages, Messengers, Ads, Reels, Stories. I love connecting with people. Im everywhere as @JoshMortonMusic including my official website joshmortonmusic.com
