What is the backstory to your name?
The backstory to my stage name: "JU$$-B" came from me wanting to leave my past life and alias behind and have people actually listening to my music. Appreciating that I just want to express myself through this art and not attaching anything else to it. So I wanted to Just be myself, which led to my name and brand #JussByourself and I added the ''$$" instead of the "S" to symbolize the financial stability that I want to secure for my family not just because it looks cool.
How do you describe or build music for the next generation?
I pride myself on making timeless music. What I mean by that is straightforward and exactly what I said "TIMELESS". I'm always hitting the point where people try to place me in a box and it's very frustrating, because in today's industry there isn't much content with substance. I'm able to do everything from rap to sing and still give it that vibe while saying true to my own sound which is why I feel as the days go by I'll always be able to connect with the people because of my music being so relatable and somewhat of a need.
Who influenced your career the most?
Every time I'm asked who influenced my career the most people are surprised at the answer given all the time. It will always be my older brother GRAMZ. Without him I would've never known how to actually love and enjoy music the way I do today, there wouldn't be a JU$$-B, so y'all can thank him for setting the tone and me just rolling with the punches. Because watching him on stage one night in a talent show was the day I said to myself, "I'm going to be on these big stages one day."
Do you produce your music?
I wish I did. tried one day and said I'll leave it up to the professionals. But, I can definitely sit with someone and get my "Dj Khaled on" telling them where something should go and how I'd like it. That's as close as id be getting to creating a beat
Do you write the lyrics first or create/pick the music first?
When creating for me it depends on the vibe I'm in. When I'm writing off of emotions and aggression, I tend to write the words first because they come to me faster in the heat of the moment. Then if the beat is just so dope it makes it even easier. But a clear head, I tend to look for a dope sound that I could create a smooth hook to then take it from there.
If you weren’t a recording artist what would you be doing?
Since I've been chasing this dream this question spirals all throughout my brain constantly. I can never come up with an answer because I don't want to focus on a plan B when I'm constantly moving forward with my plan A; which is doing music. Depression kicks in, doubt, and even regret sometimes which drives me to the point of quitting and giving up. As many times as I've stood on the ledge of it, I can never come to terms with saying "YES I'M GOING TO GIVE THIS MUSICAL DREAM UP!" I love this shit so much, I could never walk away from all the hard work and opportunities it has created for me
What are you going to do first when all COVID restrictions are lifted?
I want to have a concert. NOT A SHOWCASE! NOT A TALENT SHOW, A REAL DEAL CONCERT! With 2 months of rehearsal and 3 months of promoting until show date. That would change the way people look at independent artist in Brooklyn, NY.
Would you use or become a ghostwriter?
Haha! definitely NOT! No need to use a ghost writer at all, Lol. Working with someone on a song, no problem, but no ones ever going to be able to say they've written rhymes for me, Lol. I wouldn't mind ghost writing something for someone cause I already song write for people, so it's kind of the same thing in my eyes.
Describe the perfect summer drink?
PERFECT SUMMER DRINK FOR ME WOULD BE A NICE DUSSÉ COOLADA OR A GRAND MARNIER WITH A LARGE CUBE LIKE A BOSS WHILE SITTING WITH MY QUEEN, LOL ( THAT WHOLE SCENE IS WHAT MAKES THE DRINK BETTER FOR ME)
What's your next move and where can people connect with you at?
My next move right now, I've been loading up visuals and content for the summer and making sure that I have enough content to keep my foot on the gas. Right now people can find me on all streaming platforms by name ''JU$$-B" and get familiar with my latest body of work titled STUVIEWS (Blue Version). Also on Instagram, which I'm very active on, don't be a stranger follow me and turn them post and story notifications on @JussB.yourself and it was a pleasure speaking with you guys! Until next time!
