Behind The Lens: TNC Laid

What’s the origin behind your name? Where are you from?

My name TNC Laid has quite an interesting and unique origin. TNC is an acronym that comes from my movement (There Is No Competition) and Laid comes from a childhood name I had (Kool-Aid) because of my big smile. As I got older I dropped the first 3 letters and stuck to it.

What moment in hip hop has stood out to you the most?

The moment in Hip-Hop that stood out to me the most was Nipsey Hussle’s death. Nipsey’s death had a huge impact on the world and it taught me to touch people with my words and remain who I am as a person and I’ll always be respected and legendary.

If you weren’t doing hip hop what would you be doing?

If I weren’t doing hip hop I would probably be traveling the world as an entrepreneur closing business deals.

If you could work with anyone in the industry who would it be?

If I could work with anyone in the industry it would be Alicia Keys, Kendrick Lamar, and The Weeknd.

What is your creative process? Do you write or freestyle your rhymes?

My creative process consists of me listening to beats and choosing the one I’m vibing to the most. Next, I smoke and write lyrics on my notes in my phone until the entire song is completed and comes together in the manner I intended.

What do you have going on right now? (Merch, Music, Events, Collabs, etc)

Right now I have a new EP out (Free Agent) on all major streaming platforms, two music videos out for singles off of the EP (No Features and Weather The Storm), I have merch for the EP as well, and I’ve been doing features with other artists.

What’s one thing you wish someone told you about the music industry which would have drastically changed your career?

One thing I wish someone would’ve told me about the music industry that would have drastically changed my career is that people are very shady in this business and you can easily get taken advantage of, as they will try to cheat you out of your talent’s worthiness so you must have all your contracts reviewed and have proper representation.

Superhero or Villain?

Superhero because I love pushing my folks to do better and I always help people out whenever I can.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years I see myself being one of the biggest artists in the world while running my own record label and having multiple businesses of my own.

Where can people connect with you at?

People can connect with me on social media at @tnclaid (Instagram and Twitter) and on all streaming platforms and YouTube under TNC Laid.
