Sometimes you don’t just leave the past.. you carve yourself out of it. Alt-R&B trailblazer Sylo returns with a striking shift in tone on Carve Me Out, his first single since his NPR Tiny Desk Concert late last year. Shedding the warmth of his previous work for a grittier, more electronic sound, Sylo leans into reckless abandonment with a freedom born from personal upheaval, distance, and self-reconstruction. Following the end of a long-term relationship in his hometown, he sought liberation in Mexico City, where months of untethered solitude helped him shed emotional weight. Sylo shared:
I spent the last four years with this person in the same city I was born in. I knew that for there to be real change in my life, I had to literally move to another country not just for her, but to move on from the old patterns, habits and behaviors that dictated so much of who I was. This song is that last piece to commemorate that.

The result is a track that balances sonic abrasion with reflective depth—a farewell to old selves, sung with soft defiance. The single is an audible reckoning with change: a bold declaration from an artist no longer confined to comfort, yet still grounded in his signature soulful vocals. As he embraces this next phase, Sylo still makes listeners feel like he’s right there in the room. Watch the “Carve Me Out” visualizer and witness the next chapter of Sylo’s transformation on Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, Facebook, Spotify, YouTube, and Apple Music.
