Houston and Texas in general has slipped since the early 2000’s. In 2005 Houston was running the game with rappers like Paul Wall, Slim Thug, Mike Jones, Lil Flip, Chamillionaire, and UGK. I think one of the reasons Houston has fallen behind is due to Travis Scott, Don Toliver, and Megan Thee Stallion not having that traditional Houston sound. Sauce Walka has stuck to the that sound and has built momentum of late.
Sauce Walka is starting to get recognized. In the last year he has been on The Breakfast Club and Million Dollaz Worth of Game. I think one of the reasons Sauce Walka has become more popular is because he is very in tune with the new upcoming artist’s in the game. This is proven on this project with features from artist’s like Bossman Dlow, Wizz Havinn, and YTB Fatt. Equally, we also get features from other Houston artist’s like Travis Scott and Lil Jairmy. On this project he brings the featuring artist’s into his world and stays true to Houston by having every track finish Chopped & Screwed.
The south in general is more about the sound and energy rather than substance and lyrics. I do feel like Sauce Walka is respected as a lyricist as you can find him doing features with rappers like Westside Gunn and OT The Real. Besides the lyrics, the lingo, flow, and hooks are all on point. The hooks are very good on this album.
Even superstars like Megan Thee Stallion and Travis Scott have recently worked with Walka. He appeared on Megan Thee Stallion song Southsidr Royalty Freestyle and Travis is featured on this album. Money Counter was a little disappointing. I think Travis would have sounded better on Katie Ledecky.
Best Song = “Za So Loud” (Feat. Wizz Havinn)
