Behind The Lens: Sibary (Ali)

What is your story? Tell us a little about yourself.

Hey! My name is Sibary but friends and family call me Ali. It's always been my childhood nickname. I’m over the age of 18 and was born in Brooklyn New York, lived in Orlando Florida for a few years and now currently residing in Holyoke Massachusetts. Im a DV survivor and a single mother of one. I currently work as a Central intake Coordinator  processing referrals for clients who desire outpatient services. I like to help others in need even when I don't have it all.  I work out from home and attend the gym when needed. I'm very outgoing, love to laugh and dance, most importantly very much family oriented. Im  Christian and have a high belief in the all mighty the son, the father and the holy spirit. I have faith that anything that comes from God lasts forever!

What inspired you to become a model? What continues to inspire you today?

What inspired me to be a model was Tyra Banks and watching America's Next Top Model. I've been photogenic my whole life and love being in front of the camera. I love all the art that comes out of it and creative ideas.  What continues to inspire me is the fun and passion I have for being a model. It truly makes me happy recreating images and ideas that come to life. The best part is body types there's different body types and you don't have to look a certain way or be a certain  size to be a model. We are all beautiful just the way we are!

Which shoot was most memorable to you? Which shoot was the worst? Why?

My most memorable shoot was probably my third one. ELS Photography the ladies made me feel so comfortable and directed me through every photo. I had so much fun and felt like I was a celebrity, they even gifted me a key chain and pillow with some of my best photos. The worst shoot which I won't go into much detail was with a photographer who just seemed to rush through the whole process. Didn't let me see my photos until I made a payment and at the end I didn't even like most of my photos. I felt like I got ripped off and didn't feel like much of a model then.

Who and what brands in the modeling industry would you like to work with?

I would love to work with Calvin Klein, or Ralph Lauren. I love everything Polo, I'm a very business casual type of lady and my ideas of fashion align with these brands. I'm super passionate about both attires and if I were to ever be rich these two brands is what you would see in my closet. I'm also super passionate about art and fashion and that is why I would love to work with Clavin Klein.

What advice would you give to those struggling with self-worth issues?

Advice I would give those struggling with self-worth issues is love yourself and be your true self. Don't walk like how other people do and remember whose wing is protecting you. God is the only person who can judge so don't compare yourself to others. If you believe you are perfect just the way you are, embrace it and have self confidence because if you don't nobody else will. The brain is the strongest part of the body right so if you're constantly worrying about how you look in a negative way you will eventually start believing it. Start some positive affirmation and don't ever be afraid to be who you are.

What is your greatest attribute in front of the camera?

My greatest attribute in front of the camera I would say is my ability to take direction. I am able to follow directions and really listen to the photographers and what they are looking for.

What is your greatest attribute when nobody is watching? As in, when nobody’s looking, how do you act?

My greatest attribute when nobody is looking I would say is being  goofy. As in when nobody's looking, I'm serious and to myself. I turn it down when I don't feel as comfortable in front of a random person or stranger.

If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing?

If I weren't to be modeling I would be  living my regular life. I would be giving my daughter unconditional love and just living day by day. Paycheck by paycheck.  That's all I can really think of.

What makes you unique or different from other models?

What makes me unique and different from other models is that I take everything as a lesson. If something doesn't go my way I don't let it upset me or make me feel like I have to give up. I keep pushing because I live by the motto that if I get what I want, that's God's direction and if I don't get what I want, that's God's protection. I am very much aware of what works for me and what doesn't.

What sorts of volunteer work do you involve yourself with?  As a model, what social cause(s) do you stand for?

I don't really involve myself in any type of volunteer work at the moment, but as a model the social cause i'll stand for would be Poverty. The city I'm from has a high number of homeless people in need and also struggling with addiction. I feel like addicts deserve another chance to be heard and given the opportunity to do better.

What do you have going on next and where can people connect with you?

I'll be doing a shoot to promote my new online business I've been working on. Pretty Girl Lashes are handmade lashes I've been dedicating my free time to. Seeing I'm a certified lash tech I decided to put my certification to use. Don't really have the time or space to take client's in so handmade lashes and shipping them out became more convenient for me and my schedule. People can connect with me on my Instagram @ThtPrettyGirlAli. I'm easy to get along with, and open to meeting new people. I'm a big supporter because at the end of the day we are all in this together Quid pro quo.
