How do you see the music industry changing this year?
I know it's always been rough for indie artists, but this year it feels like it's a new level. I've heard there are more artists than ever releasing music this year, so the competition is higher. I know there's more magazines taking payment to feature indie artists this year. There are more paid services on streaming platforms. The algorithms on social media are getting worse; less people will get our content on their feed. Especially if we're not posting selfie-videos. I also read something about young people taking a break from music. It seems like indie artists need some luck, or a video going viral on TikTok to make it this year. I'm sorry, this was quite a heavy start. I probably lost you there.
What's the most unexpected place you've found musical inspiration?
I still find it strange that I used to feel really inspired when I rented a small storage room to use as my studio, with no window and little light. I think maybe it doesn’t really matter where I am. When I sing, I like to close my eyes, and when I play instruments, I really need to focus. So, the room doesn’t affect me too much. Maybe a really nice view with sunny weather would distract me a bit more than no window.
What's your favorite anthem of all time?
This was actually quite hard to find the answer to, as I felt like I couldn't choose a song I've only been listening to for the last few years. I had to go way back and think about what's been staying with me since my childhood. Then I thought of Aretha Franklin. And I guess the song ‘Respect’ is the song I've been listening to the most from her, while growing up and later on.
What's your favorite song to perform live?
The last few years it's been my song Annie Blackburn. I think I really like to do it live because of the energy between me and the musicians I play with live. But also because of how effortless it feels to sing and play the e-bow on it, and therefore I can really listen to the others and feel more. I also like the outro we do, when the guitarist and bassist sound like singing angels and continue alone while me and the other musicians get ready and go into the next song.

How do you come up with new song titles?
Most of the time it comes from what I name the drafts from when I create the first logic project. Sometimes it’s words or sentences from the songs, or the association, idea or thought I have about the song. Sometimes there’s too many good options, and I have to decide when the song is done. On my new album I wrote a title before I even had the text or music. That’s never happened before. That’s also the title of my new album.
How do you choose which songs make it onto an album?
Most of the time all the songs I create in a period make it to the next album. But if a song isn’t good enough, I might change it until it's good enough, and then it might not even be recognizable from how it was at first.
What's your favorite part of performing at festivals?
To get to see other shows. And that there might be people who wouldn’t have come to our show if it wasn’t for the festival.
What's your favorite collaboration you've done so far?
It must be the collaboration album I did with New Age Doom and the musicians Tim Lefebvre, Benedicte Pierleoni, CrookOne, Dan Rosenboom, COLA WARS, and Gavin Templeton.
I still can’t believe or get over the fact that Lee «Scratch» Perry made a remix of my song, but I never met him. His remix is actually what led to the collab with New Age Doom.

If you were a racecar, what brands would be sponsoring you?
I would be a strange race car. I would be sponsored by all these second hand clothing stores. And record shops. And maybe a coffee brand, and a beer brand - if I would get their products for free? Because those things are really expensive in Norway, but I really like coffee and beer.
Where can people connect with you and would you share an exclusive record with CEL?
