A bar stool becomes a stage, a knife becomes a prop, and every bad memory gets dragged into the spotlight for one last dance. On Cashout, New York songwriter Kelsea Feder, performing as Blums, transforms personal turmoil into something theatrical, glamorous, and impossible to look away from. Sharp lyrical observations slice through the haze, with cascading vocal layers crashing together as if multiple versions of Kelsea are arguing, celebrating, and surviving simultaneously. What begins as a recollection of an uncomfortable moment gradually mutates into an explosive act of reclamation, creating a tension between seduction and confrontation over pulsating synths. The track’s structure mirrors the emotional whiplash beautifully with moment of spirals, eruptions, and sudden bursts of clarity. Recalling the experience which sparked both the song and visual, Kelsea described:
I came home from a night with a guy during which I had a pretty unpleasant memory pop up and wig me out during what was supposed to be a fun time. It unlocked a lot of unpleasant memories/anger during what was supposed to be a sexy, fun time, and I wanted to turn it into a celebration of catharsis. This song also points a lot to repeated patterns and how we find ourselves back inside of what we’re trying to get away from... I knew that I wanted some fever dream Coyote Ugly bar dance sequence interspersed with knife flipping on the side of the road where I grew up in South Jersey.

Directed by Ella Sinskey and Colter Fellows, the accompanying visual amplifies that transformation through a feverish blend of roadside rebellion and Coyote Ugly-inspired fantasy. Watching Kelsea command the screen feels like watching someone seize control of a narrative that once controlled them. There is danger, swagger, humor, and catharsis woven throughout the video, giving "Cashout" a larger-than-life quality without sacrificing the personal truth buried beneath it. The announcement of Sunk Cost Fantasy reveals an artist who appears far more interested in constructing worlds than simply releasing songs. Scheduled for August 7 via Take Care Records, throw "Cashout" on loud and watch where the night goes next. Connect with Blums on YOUTUBE, INSTAGRAM, and BANDCAMP.
