A backyard bluegrass jam can carry farther than anyone expects. Boone, North Carolina five-piece Cigarettes @ Sunset turns that memory into Carolina Shakedown. The loose-limbed anthem, released through Lost Highway Records, carries Garrett Dellinger’s hometown memory with a grin and a little trouble. Producer Taylor Kimball pushes bluegrass momentum through the band’s self-described Appalachian possum rock, giving the song both dance-floor lift and a scrape of punk grit. Sarah Vann’s violin solo is the release point, climbing above the rhythm. The groove moves forward with every part contributing into a communal experience. The lyrics read:

I hum those Appalachian hymns deep from the East Coast mountain winds. Forgive me, father, of my sins. I just can’t wait to do it again.

The song draws from Sunday afternoons when Dellinger’s grandparents invited church friends over for barbecue and bluegrass on a makeshift backyard stage. That history explains why the track can sound rowdy without losing its sense of welcome. Garrett Dellinger, Wells Whitman, Ethan Moore, Sarah Vann, and Ryland Bagbey play like a unit that learned energy in the heart of the Appalachian. Their coming tour dates stretch from sold-out hometown and Athens shows to Australia’s Strummingbird Festival and a U.S. run with Dexter & The Moonrocks.
