Like Kites introduces the next chapter for face of ancient gallery, the solo project of guitarist and songwriter Jeremy Mock. This track was the last song written for the album, and came together almost by accident. I’m usually a pretty obsessive editor with my music, but this one was an experiment in immediacy. There were almost no edits to the lyrics, and the whole thing came together in only a few sittings. I thought the lyrics might lean toward cliché, but increasingly that’s where I’m trying to land. In 2026 the biggest risk you can take as an artist is being willing to sit in that space, because it leaves you open to genuine ridicule.
The single arrives alongside the announcement that Mock has signed to Good English Records, with the full album "Like Kites" set to arrive May 1. The project follows last year’s self-titled debut, which introduced listeners to his stripped-down songwriting and atmospheric folk textures. Known for his guitar work with Bloodsports, People I Love, and Wesley Wolffe, Mock now turns inward, presenting his most personal material through this evolving solo identity. With its delicate arrangement and carefully unfolding emotional arc, "Like Kites" feels like the opening scene of a larger story.
