A photograph left in the sun slowly fades, but the feelings attached to it rarely do. That sentiment sits at the heart of Fraternal Twin’s Skin Gets Hot (Deluxe), an expanded return to a record which quietly earned cult admiration through honesty, patience, and emotional depth. Tom Christie uses this anniversary edition to examine how songs evolve alongside the people who created them. The refreshed version of "Skin Gets Hot" adds greater weight and widen the lens, of the detail which were previously hidden between the cracks. The project treats its history as something living rather than something preserved in recordings. Reflecting on the release, Christie explained:
“I wanted to do something special for the 10th anniversary of ‘Skin Gets Hot’ last year, but the band was in a period of transition. Our drummer, Marco Spodek, and I had been recording new music, and I didn’t know it yet — but we were just about to form a new lineup for a tour last summer that is fully based in NYC, where we live now, and it just stuck. We’ve been playing with Mariah Houston (guitar) and Forrest Philpot (bass) for a year now and we work well together. I’ve had this vague idea to re-record the title track with the live band for quite a while now, but it didn’t materialize until earlier this year, along with a sort of lost song called ‘Better Off’ that, for some reason, didn’t end up on the album all those years ago. I also went through all my old tapes for as many demos from back then as I could find. So it’s a time capsule that goes back over a decade, but it’s also a snapshot of where the band is right now.

The collection gains additional character through the involvement of producer Dan Howard at Brooklyn’s Chateau Grand, alongside current band members Marco Spodek, Mariah Houston, and Forrest Philpot. Their contributions create a bridge between Fraternal Twin’s earliest chapters and its present identity, allowing longtime listeners to hear familiar material through a renewed perspective. The inclusion of the previously unreleased Better Off”feels especially meaningful, uncovering a missing piece from an era that helped define the project’s foundation. With additional live performances expected on the horizon, the release also signals another active chapter for a group whose reputation continues to grow through genuine connection rather than hype. For newer audiences, experience "Skin Gets Hot (Deluxe)" and discover why these songs continue to find new life more than a decade later. Follow Fraternal Twin on YOUTUBE, INSTAGRAM, and TWITTER.
