Giovannie & The Hired Guns turn a bad idea into a good time on Cheap Date, their high-energy new single released through Nash York Records. Produced by Andrew Baylis, the track pushes rock, alternative, and country into the same room without asking any one style to behave. The guitar-forward attack gives the song its first impact, while the rhythm underneath keeps the chaos organized enough for the hook to ride along. 'Cheap Date' is about finding someone on a night out who is just as much of a bad idea as you. Some people want roses and reservations. Some of us want a fifth and someone we shouldn’t text.
Cheap Date also opens the road toward the Stephenville band’s fifth studio album, scheduled to arrive next year. The record is expected to push further into country-rock and alternative territory while keeping the Red Dirt and Mexican-American foundation at the center of the band’s sound. That foundation has carried the five-piece from Texas honky-tonks to major festivals and arenas, with more than 730 million worldwide streams reported across their catalog. Their 2022 breakout Ramon Ayala reached No. 1 at both Alternative and Active Rock radio before earning RIAA Gold certification. The Cheap Date Tour begins September 24 at The Lumberyard in Canyon, Texas, and runs through December 11 at Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, with additional 2027 dates still to come.
