Sometimes the hardest way back is the one that changes you first. In Hudson Ingram's The Long Way Home (Vol. 1) explores what happens when chasing growth means leaving familiar versions of yourself behind. The first installment in a planned trilogy, leans into Americana-rooted songwriting which feels mature beyond Hudson’s age. The project is centered on distance, change, and the uncomfortable realization that home stops meaning the same thing once you’ve been away long enough. Honesty to does the heavy lifting on tracks like Real Life and Linger reinforce that reflective tone, but Don’t Get Me Started featuring Sydney Rose adds another layer through its conversational intimacy. Their voices blend naturally, giving the song the kind of quiet emotional tension that lingers after it ends. speaking on the album Hudson stated:

I started writing these songs when I felt miles away from myself… The Long Way Home is about growing up, leaving, and realizing you don’t come back the same person, but also that maybe that’s the point.

That self-awareness gives the project cohesion beyond its runtime, positioning this first volume as the opening chapter of a broader personal narrative rather than a standalone collection. Produced alongside Adam Melchor and Jack Schrepferman through Aaron Dessner’s Long Pond partnership, this EP does not try to sound larger than life. "The Long Way Home (Vol. 1)" feels less like a debut statement and more like a diary written with discipline. More importantly, Hudson uses this release to establish not just sonic identity, but thematic purpose. Take the long way with this one and hear where it leads below.
