There’s beauty in the break, a pulse in the pause. With their newest single Ain’t Quite Right,” enigmatic alt-duo Still Blank stretch the tension between vulnerability and detachment with shoegaze whispers and grunge minimalism. Written during a grey Manchester winter, the track flips their usual creative process, letting the imbalance seep into the music itself. Jordy (Kaua’i) and Ben (Manchester) build an uneasy push-pull dynamic across sparse production and jagged guitar responses while creating a song which breathes, jolts, and bruises all at the same time. The band shared:
We wanted it to feel on edge—building tension. The lyrics explore a dysfunctional relationship where both sides are suffocating, and neither can let go.

With “Ain’t Quite Right,” the duo strip things even further down, yet deliver a slow-burn anthem that simmers just beneath the skin. The sonic references to Sonic Youth and PJ Harvey are evident in the track’s dissonant backbone, while the guitar’s eerie counterpoint becomes its own character in the narrative. Following the acclaim of their debut What About Jane, Still Blank once again lean into friction — emotional, sonic, and existential.
Their rawness stems from opposite worlds, so stay connected by following Still Blank on Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, Tik Tok, and YouTube. Let us know your thoughts on “Ain’t Quite Right” below.
