The Worst Thing is more than a song; it is a testament to the human spirit's capacity to endure and find meaning amid life's darkest moments. Jim Andralis, a staple of the downtown NYC music scene, is poised to release his brand new single "The Worst Thing." This track, born from personal anguish and societal upheaval, underscores Andralis' talent for translating raw emotion into compelling music. The single reflects on a tumultuous period following the Dobbs decision in June 2022, coupled with a severe health scare involving his sister, Kori. The overwhelming fear and grief from that time became the emotional bedrock for "The Worst Thing," showcasing Andralis' ability to navigate and express profound sorrow through his art. Passing a diner adorned with tiny American flags amidst his personal crisis struck a deep chord, leading to a powerful lyrical expression, Andralis adds:

This song is an attempt to give myself permission to feel overwhelming terror, rage, and despair. "It's also an expression of contempt toward the arrogant belief that we can be spared the world's horrors if we do things right.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind the song, Andralis recounts a poignant moment during a drive to visit his sister in the hospital. Recorded with his band, The Syntonics, "The Worst Thing" features a unique sound characterized by synchronized breaths that resemble gasps, adding a palpable layer of emotion. Andralis' ability to shine a light on the darker corners of the human heart, offering beauty and solace, is ever-present in this track. Andralis has a long-standing career, beginning with the NYC punk band The Isotoners and continuing with acclaimed solo projects. His upcoming fifth LP, Ghosts, slated for release in fall 2024, continues his exploration of grief and the connections between the living and the departed.
