If sound could wander like a fever dream across desert plains, it would arrive as Lucky Horse Red. The LA-based six-piece emerge with their self-titled debut album, set to release September 26. The patchwork supergroup includes bassist Keilah Nina, guitarist Mark Martino, steel player Colin Croom, guitarist Jake Melendez, drummer Mika Rabina, and multi-instrumentalist Laine Gaubert. Their introduction to the world comes with a double offering of the sultry haze of Noon Moon and the untamed grit of Whiskey. Blending psych, Americana, punk, and folk, the project conjures a cinematic universe steeped in mystique, romance, and raw edge. Frontwoman Bunny Gaubert thought on “Noon Moon” shared:
A swampy summer tune. We wanted to create a catchy chorus with group vocals à la Courtney Barnett or Kurt Vile.
On “Whiskey she sings:
I heard you nicknamed me whiskey.

Gaubert leans into vulnerability with the biting lyric accusing an old flame of craving her chaos as much as her love. Her delivery teeters between drunk and stone-cold sober, echoing with anarchic poetry and intimacy. Recorded at Joshua Tree Recording Studio, the 13-track album balances excess and innocence with a vintage 1960s analog aesthetic. Fresh from their performance at LA’s Family Affair Folk Fest, Lucky Horse Red are gearing up for more live dates soon. Pre-save the album now and stream both “Noon Moon” and “Whiskey” today.
