Sometimes the best way forward is to look back. With his warm-hearted new single Unwind, Nashville’s Paul McDonald brings listeners into a breezy, feel-good state of reflection and release. Co-written with his former bandmate Jonathan Pears of The Grand Magnolias, the song captures the spark of spontaneous creativity to reignited. During a late-night jam the single turned into a melodic reminder to slow down and simply be. Featuring contributions from Hailey Steele, “Unwind” offers a soulful tribute to McDonald’s early college band days while embracing the freedom of the present moment. McDonalds shares:

This song was born out of pure connection. No pressure. Just guitars, some laughter, and a little bit of magic.

The track marks the third release from his upcoming album So Long To The Dark Side, his first studio LP in eight years, out July 18. The album itself represents a long, winding road—filled with scrapped projects and spiritual resets. But with the help of his new band The Mourning Doves and a pivotal month-long residency at East Nashville’s The Underdog, McDonald finally uncovered the unfiltered sound he’d been chasing all along. "So Long To The Dark Side" was cut live to tape with producer Bobby Holland, capturing the soul of his sonic revival.
