Sabrina Song leans into vulnerability with a track that captures the quiet unraveling of trying not to care too much. Play It Cool, glides with a lightness that contrasts, caught between restraint and surrender, as she navigates the thrill and embarrassment of falling deeply for someone. Letting melody and phrasing carry the emotional impact, it’s a gentle confession, wrapped in warmth and hesitation. There’s a sweetness to the presentation that avoids cliché, through both the song and its lyric video, where soft visuals of animal pairs mirror the idea of connection and companionship. Song had to say:
After the release of my debut album last year, I began working on new music with no expectations or plans. Those songs slowly started to take shape around a theme of disillusionment–which is what led me to the title of 'Big Trick.' Pulled from the title track of the EP, 'Big Trick' delves into the vulnerability of ugly feelings, letting yourself change your mind, and feeling the full spectrum of your emotions.

As with much of Sabrina Song’s catalog, the strength lies in her ability to sit with feeling rather than rush past it. "Play It Cool" arrives as the latest glimpse into Big Trick, her upcoming EP set for release May 8, a project shaped by themes of disillusionment, emotional growth, and self-compassion. Her writing continues to explore the complexities of young adulthood with a sense of compassion. With upcoming support for Pom Pom Squad in Brooklyn, this next chapter feels intentional and more about understanding it.
