New York City-based band Shower Curtain, fronted by Brazilian-American artist Victoria Winter, has unveiled their new single Benadryl Man. The latest single is a glimpse into their debut album Words From A Wishing Well, due out on October 18. The track delves into the eerie realm of insomnia and anxiety, with distorted production and haunting string arrangements that echo the unsettling soundscapes of classic horror films. Accompanied by an official music video, the single encapsulates the band’s signature shoegaze and slowcore influences. Winter reflects on the inspiration behind the track, stating:

‘Benadryl Man’ tells the story of my issues with sleeping and anxiety. I see a figure sitting on my couch, preventing me from feeling safe in my own home.

Co-producer and guitarist Ethan Williams adds:

We layered violin and cello parts to give the track a sinister, string quartet feel, especially in the Hitchcock-esque screeches of the final chorus.

Produced by Winter and Williams, the track features contributions from Zach Mezzo and Wil Ren, whose violin and cello work enhance the unsettling atmosphere. The official music video, co-directed by Winter and bassist Cody Hudgins, takes viewers on a surreal journey through a digital world filled with angels and bunnies, inspired by viral TikTok videos. With Angel Tapes and Fire Talk Records, Shower Curtain is poised to make waves with their unique blend of sludgy rock and poignant shoegaze.
