Small Pond Turns "Silver Coin" Into A "Soft Burn" Signal

Small Pond opens with the first single from their sophomore album, Soft Burn, with Silver Coin. The Alex Farrar-produced project arrives October 21 after sessions at Drop Of Sun Studios. The band allowed its themes to emerge from songs written across different periods of friction, tenderness, and harder, colder realities. "Silver Coin" narrows that tension to the uncomfortable clarity of seeing one’s behavior from the outside. Molly McDevitt says:

'Silver Coin' is about looking at a relationship from the outside almost like a third person perspective, watching yourself and not always liking what you see. It’s about the disconnect that comes when you know you’re not showing up the way you want to for the people who matter to you, and the discomfort of admitting that.

The first single from the Maine indie-rock band’s introduces an album concerned with relationships, identity, change, and the unfinished work of understanding yourself while you are still living through it. The band describes a range that moves from the pop-leaning production of everything’s quiet toward the funkier roots of darlene and holy, before pressing into heavier territory later in the tracklist. The rollout continues with performances in Maine, New York, and Massachusetts, including an October 23 show at Cassette in New York City and an October 28 date at Deep Cuts in Boston.
