Spaer Paints "Lessons & Nonsense" Throughout "Vaguely Pleasant"

Some songs slowly change the color of the room around you. Spaer, the solo project of Psymon Spine co-founder Peter Spears, captures that subtle transformation on Vaguely Pleasant. The latest single is a gentle meditation wrapped in dreamy guitars, featherlight percussion, and softly layered vocals. Rather than chasing dramatic highs, the track explores the feeling of rediscovering warmth after a period of emotional distance. There's an understated patience to the arrangement, making the song feel suspended somewhere between memory and the present. As another preview of the upcoming EP Lessons & Nonsense, it showcases an artist willing to embrace life's smallest emotional shifts. Spaer had to say:
This song is an older one as well, so a bit out of character thematically. That said, I don't even fully remember exactly what the lyrics are referencing. I do know that it’s generally about, and was partially written during, the ‘after glow’ associated with the day after MDMA, in a time in my life when I felt a bit cold and angry. It can help reset your perspective and connection to others and leave you feeling vaguely pleasant, hence the refrain and the title.
Arriving August 20 via Vinegar Hill Sound Records, a reflective spirit runs throughout "Lessons & Nonsense." Pulling inspiration from psych rock, trip-hop, folk, and indie pop, the EP stitches together years of songwriting into a collection that finds significance in everyday moments often overlooked. Spaer will celebrate the release with a hometown performance at The Sultan Room Rooftop in Brooklyn alongside Patching and Chammeili, bringing these songs to life where intimacy and experimentation can coexist.
