Treasures can spend decades buried before finding the right hands to uncover them. That spirit runs through Diamonds, the newly released title track from Shooter Jennings’ upcoming collection of previously unheard recordings by his father, Waylon Jennings. Anchored by themes of love, heartbreak, and relationship struggles, "Diamonds" presents a more energetic side of the legendary artist while preserving the authenticity of the original recordings. The discovery becomes even more remarkable with a surprise appearance from Glen Campbell, whose guitar work and presence add another layer to an already special recording. Discussing the finding Jennings stated:
This track eluded me. I kept finding it across three different sessions while I was going through my father‘s work... Suddenly, upon listening to the whole thing, I realized Glen Campbell had stopped by the studio and they recorded this little gem on a late December night in 1978.
Rather than looking backward with nostalgia alone, "Diamonds" highlights why Waylon’s music continues to resonate across generations. Every note carries the grit, honesty, and storytelling that helped define an era of country music while remaining timeless today. The release marks the second installment in Shooter Jennings’ ongoing effort to share previously unheard material from Waylon’s archives following the acclaimed Songbird. Contributions from surviving members of The Waylors and harmonica master Mickey Raphael helped complete several tracks, creating a bridge between past and present. Available physically in November and digitally in December through Son Of Jessi and Thirty Tigers, the project serves both longtime fans and newer listeners discovering Waylon’s catalog for the first time.
