New York’s The Thing is reviving raw, visceral rock with the first two tracks from their forthcoming self-titled album. Instead of a traditional release, the band is dropping two songs each month until the full 12-track LP arrives this summer. The first installment of Above Snakes and Dave’s TV, are out now, delivering a powerful mix of garage grit, metallic punch, and relentless energy. The band shares:
The Thing is a fully analog record, tracked live to tape without any computer. Intended to be listened to loud and fully through, the album reveals a universe of sounds and moods that brings forth our most ‘Thing’ record yet.
"Above Snakes" takes its name from an old Western saying meaning to stay alive no matter what. The track sets a tone of rebellion and perseverance, capturing the band’s restless energy. "Dave’s TV" explores unrequited love with a krautrock twist, where nostalgia and heartbreak collide in a haze of hypnotic rhythms. The band’s official video dials up the camp, filmed outside the real-life Dave’s TV store in Millerton, NY.

Fresh off a fiery SXSW performance, The Thing is heading to Europe this May and June for a headline tour, with stops at Relache Festival (France), Best Kept Secret (Netherlands), and the sold-out Freak Valley Festival (Germany). Before crossing the pond, they’ll rock their hometown NYC and hit Nashville. Stream the singles here, watch the official video, and grab tour tickets now.
