U2 Break The Silence On "Carnaval De Luz" With "Silencio"

U2 break a nine-year studio silence with Carnaval De Luz, their 16th album and first full collection of new material since 2017. Arriving November 13 through Interscope Records, the 12-song record lands during the band’s 50th year, five decades after Larry Mullen Jr. posted the school notice that first brought the group together. The announcement comes with Silencio, a two-minute-and-35-second burst described as an homage to early surf-punk insolence. Jacknife Lee produced the album, with Ryan Tedder adding production to the new single. Without loose transitions, the guitars, rhythm, and vocal statements give the track a different kind of scale from the larger ideas surrounding the album. Bono explains why the band keeps answering uncertainty by turning the sound up:
Roll up, roll up, roll up! Bring your purple socks, your broken hearts, your rose-tinted naivety… oh be amazed in the hall of mirrors. There will be loud guitars, deep bass, some ecstatic rhythms and, yes, some silver tears will make an appearance! 'Cause in the near distance just outside our carnival of light there are all kinds of creatures… the same imagination that brings us our creativity can also bring us monsters. So we make the drums louder. We build a bigger fire. We make our stories wilder and funnier. We make the melodies sweeter and the songs, they better shine, because if the world is in darkness we better not be.
Across Carnaval De Luz, Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr. examine spirituality, friendship, freedom, and endurance against darker forces. The album continues the creative period behind the 2026 EPs Days Of Ash and Easter Lily, completing a timeline that moves from carnival through reflection and rebirth. Its collaborators include Brian Eno, Martin Garrix, and Daniel Lanois, while the closing track Torn features Dolly Parton in her final recorded vocal performance. The album will be available digitally and in multiple CD and vinyl editions, including limited deluxe box sets and colored variants.
