WAR Celebrates 50 Years With Special Reissues & First UK Show In 16 Years

Written By: Big C

Iconic R&B and funk band WAR is set to celebrate the 50th anniversary of their groundbreaking album The World Is A Ghetto with a special collector’s edition reissue. Set to be released on July 19, this 4CD box set includes a remastered version of the original album, six bonus tracks, and exclusive "making of" recordings. Additionally, the band’s classic Greatest Hits collection will be available on CD and vinyl. Producer Jerry Goldstein had to say:

The nice part about all these ‘making of’ tracks is that the final take of all of these tracks is the actual final master that we used in The World Is A Ghetto, without edits, without overdubs, just raw.

Founding member Lonnie Jordan added:

Then we turned it around… R-A-W to W-A-R.

The The World Is A Ghetto: 50th Anniversary Collector’s Edition was curated by Goldstein, Jordan, and Jeremy Levine. The bonus tracks and behind-the-scenes recordings provide a unique insight into the creative process of this historic album. The "Greatest Hits" album features timeless classics like Why Can't We Be Friends, Low Rider, and The Cisco Kid, highlighting the band's diverse influences and unique sound. Adding to the celebration, WAR will perform their first UK show in 16 years on June 21, 2024, at the Royal Festival Hall in London as part of Chaka Khan’s Meltdown Festival. Full tour listings can be found here and pre-order your own copy of the collection here.
