Behind The Lens: Buff Da God

If your music were a flavor, what would it taste like and why?

If my music was a flavor it would be Garlic Honey Jack Sriracha. Now I just gave y’all the “Sauce Boss” secret recipe so I can’t say why. But just know, whether it’s your culinary pallet or your taste in music, Buff God got a wide variety of whatever you like.

What's a quirky ritual you have before hitting the stage?

Quirky ritual I have before hitting the stage is praying. I say praying because at a time like performing and turning up a lot of peoples energy are up and ready to go so someone praying is the last thing they would expect to see. But I try to remember to do it as much as possible to give thanks for my gift and also help calm my nerves and center me in the moment. Praise Jah!

What’s one social issue that you’re passionate about addressing through your platform?

The issue I’m most passionate about addressing through my platform is mental health. It’s the most important thing that gets ignored whether it be in this country or in my community as a black/ Caribbean raised male artist. I serve as an advocate against detrimental coping mechanisms and also voice for motivation, perseverance and resiliency.

If you could time travel to any music era, which would it be and why?

If I could travel to any music era it would have to be between 1995-2005 when hip hop was on its great rise and merging RnB. This era gave me great classical songs growing up which are now coming back around in sample form. This was the peak when labels realized what they had with black music, but also before the internet blew up and made things less about music. Before artist started realizing they were getting jerked out of their money, the music that was being created was monumental.

What’s the weirdest thing you've ever written a lyric about?

I don’t know what’s the weirdest thing I’ve ever wrote a lyric about. I’ll leave that to the viewers and listeners to tell me. Everything I wrote or didn’t write is near and dear to my heart whether it’s how I felt at the time or knowledge I was trying to share with the world.

Do you believe in manifesting your goals, and if so, what’s something you've manifested recently?

I definitely believe in manifesting my goals. I’ve manifested shows, goals, videos and certain moments that I’ve rapped about even before they actually happened. Maybe it’s because I said it, so I knew I had to double down on it or maybe it was meant to happen even before I knew. Regardless the tongue is proven to be a powerful weapon, there is strength in words. Watch what you say!

If your life was a movie, what would the soundtrack be like?

If my life was a movie the sound track would sound like some of my songs. Most of it like a man on a mission, a motivational audio with an increasing pace / tempo to give the listener a feel as if they’re on the quest. The other side would be the middle of the party mayhem and montage or high end luxury elevator music celebrating and toasting to success.

What song from another genre do you secretly wish you had written?

Not too sure how much of this counts as another genre, but songs I wish I secretly wrote:

  • Cry Me A River by Justin Timberlake

  • Try Me by The Weeknd

  • Come & See Me by PartyNextDoor

  • Enchanted Waterfalls Or Lavender Sunflower by Tory Lanez

How does your music help people see the world differently?

My music helps people see the world differently by providing a unique yet common prospective. I’m different from everyone yet I understand and go through all the same motions. I can relate and see how everyone is the way they are however when I digest the same experiences I just process and regenerate it to the world a little very differently.

If you could have one superpower to enhance your artistry, what would it be?

If I could have one superpower to enhance my artistry, it would be to be able to see which person I meet or work with would be able to create exactly what I’m picturing. I don’t want to keep it all to myself, so no I don’t want to learn other skills if I don’t have to. And learning to do it all would make it all boring or stressful for me. But I would like to be able to decipher which other entrepreneur out here is not only real and ready to work in a effective manner, but also has the skills/ experience enough to deliver what I picture in my head. Too many times the vision can fall through the cracks with someone in their ego, who doesn’t have what it takes or just sucks business wise.

What's one thing you want for the holidays and where can people connect with you?

The only holiday I celebrate is my family's important dates. Only thing I want is for everyone to treat me and everyone else the same way they would on holidays, everyday. Find me on all social media platforms and streaming platforms the same way. Buff Da God, @buffdagod
