What is the backstory to your name?
I came up with my name when I was 12 and I was a huge lyrical fan. So i listened to people like Kendrick Lamar, Pro Era, Mac Miller, ...etc. My middle name is De’Shawn and I wanted to be lyric also; so I came up with De’Shawn Lyric.
How do you describe or build music for the next generation?
I build my music around love and relationships honestly. I feel that a lot of the love we give now is flawed in so many ways: people pretending to care, being unfaithful, and normalizing toxic areas. I feel my music will help bring that genuine love back between men and women.
Who influenced your career the most?
I would have to say Kendrick Lamar. Ever since I heard cartoons and cereal, music changed for me. I wanted to be unique! K Dot really showed me that you don't have to follow trends to get to your spot.
Do you produce your music?
I engineer my own sounds. But when it comes to beat making and things like that, I have a personal producer for that.
Do you write the lyrics first or create or pick the music first?
I always search up the beat first catch a vibe and whatever got me singing first is what I go with. If it doesn't make me want to sing I can’t go with it.
If you weren’t a recording artist what would you be doing?
If I weren’t doing music, I would definitely be more focused on graphic designing. I own ArtByPiccolo Graphics at the moment and that’s the 3rd most important thing in my life right now!
What are you going to do first when all COVID restrictions are lifted?
As soon as the covid restrictions lift I’m still going to be very cautious, but I am definitely going to see my family more and get to work in the studio a lot more. I'm very hands on so the restrictions kind of altered how I usually take care of business.
Would you use or become a ghostwriter?
I would definitely love to be a ghost writer but as far as using one? NA! I don't have that much trust in the world!
Describe the perfect summer drink?
I don't know, I don't really drink much. When I do I automatically go to Hennessy or Dusse.
