How would you describe your music to a first-time listener?

Kind Villain makes Next Gen Alt music for the underdogs and the people that feel like outsiders. No rules, just pure honesty.

You’re celebrating a major career milestone with a trip to the ice cream shop. What’s your go-to flavor and why?

This is the most amazing question ever, I’m OBSESSED with Ice Cream and I used to have it after every show lol. Cookies and Cream is the go to, it’s just the best.

What do you want fans to take away from your music?

I want fans to feel inspired and healed. We are all "A Little Off" in our own way and what one may see as a weakness, is something that makes them special and unique.

What about making music makes it fun for you?

The idea that this song could be what someone needs to brighten their day. Whether it’s a million people or one person, these songs have the ability to help someone who is struggling and that’s what keeps me motivated.

How do you know an idea is worth developing into a song?

When an idea is based on something real, that’s when you know it’s worth finishing. When the lyrics feel like a diary and you want to make it for your own mental health, that’s when you know it’s a good song and it’s worth finishing.

When do you decide to shelf an idea that isn’t going to work?

The best ideas usually write themselves, if an idea is forced out and doesn’t come easily it’s usually not as good of an idea. For example I’m A Little Off came from a conversation; it wasn’t a song that we (Paul, my collaborator, and I) had to rework, it just flowed.

Did you think a song was going to be less successful than it actually became?

"I’m A Little Off," as strange as it sounds I didn’t know if anyone was going to care and wondered if I was making a fool of myself by putting myself out there. The community reaction shocked me and I’m very thankful that it connected the way it did.

What’s one lyric you find fans repeating back to you?

"When God made me He colored outside the lines." Almost every Kind Villain fan I’ve met has mentioned that lyric. It’s a line that changes a negative perspective to a positive one and it’s my favorite lyric as well.

You’re creating a song for an Olympian. What would you call it and what would it sound like?

We would definitely incorporate some dissonance as we love experimenting with that sound, pop-inspired choruses, heavy verses, choir vocals, and the lyrics would be about fighting through your internal thoughts. Doubt is the enemy, so let’s call it Doubt or something like that lol.

If there was a museum dedicated to your life and career, what would fans find in the gift shop?

In the gift shop you would find puzzle pieces with lyrics from "I’m A Little Off." There would also be shirts that say "Don’t just be a bedroom genius." I guess just products and merch based on believing in yourself and embracing what makes you different. As someone who is neurodivergent and felt isolated, I never want someone else to feel that way.
