Daniel Pickard Gives Excess A Face On "Nominee"

Written By: Big C

Daniel Pickard walks Nominee into a room where pleasure, power and uncertainty keep changing seats. The UK synth-pop artist frames the song as a young man’s awakening to excess. However, the character never sounds fully convinced by the world opening in front of him. French Touch sheen gives the track movement while the lyric watches consequence of the on coming changes. The production keeps the surface polished enough to tempt the listener while allowing unease to remain underneath. Synths create the glow, the rhythm keeps a deliberate strut and the vocal holds enough distance to make the narrator difficult to trust. Pickard names the central power struggle directly:
'Nominee' is a young man’s awakening to a world of excess and the struggle of power dynamics.

The official visualizer, directed by Ben Poulton, turns that conflict into retro karaoke imagery and a headless double—the protagonist’s shadow self staring back. Nominee previews the October 23 album Behaviour through AWAL. The album also includes contributions from Owen Pallett and Michael Stein, with co-production by Max Prior, mixing by Eduardo De La Paz and mastering by Antoine Chabert. The song sells the invitation and the warning in the same breath. Watch the visualizer for " “Nominee" and be sure to connect with Daniel Pickard on Instagram, Soundcloud, Bandcamp, and YouTube.
