Mud on your boots, a grin you can't quite trust, and a chorus that dares you not to sing along. Devon Again arrived on the track snake the drain sounding like she stopped asking permission. The Los Angeles-based artist takes a sharp turn from the weightier introspection that defined much of In Order, embracing a more playful and fearless side of her songwriting. Driven by massive guitar work and a full-band punch, the single borrows from country songwriting traditions while filtering them through Devon’s distinct alt-pop lens. Produced by frequent collaborator Jon Buscema, there is a mischievous confidence running through the track while the song balances sharp hooks. Rather than dwelling in emotional wreckage, she channels that energy into momentum, wit, and self-assurance. She explains:
'Snake the Drain' is the song that helped me play in the mud again. Making “In Order” had been really heavy and emotionally difficult, and I found myself in a place where I felt like if I wanted to keep making music, I would have to shift my process to make it feel fun and silly again. I have been really fascinated with country music for years. How it often feels like a math equation or something. Clever and clear with a perfect payoff. I took a trip to Nashville and when I came back it just felt right to try leaning in to something that felt almost comically country, especially compared to what I had been making for the past couple of years. This song felt like giving myself permission to explore a more headstrong, confident and playful side of myself. Snake is the first of a few that chase this feeling, and I hope to inspire that permission in whoever the song finds.

Devon Again first captured attention through viral releases and projects like PEE EP, steadily building a catalog which combined glitchy production, vulnerability, and sharp lyrical detail. Records such as cherry cola and Never Goes Away revealed an artist unafraid of difficult subject matter, but "snake the drain" widens the lens considerably by introducing a looser, more adventurous energy. The timing of the release also positions her perfectly for a major leap forward. This fall, Devon will support 40 dates on Olivia Rodrigo’s sold-out The Unraveled Tour, including headline-grabbing ten-night runs at Intuit Dome and Barclays Center. Throw "snake the drain" on when you need a reminder that reinvention can be loud, messy, and a whole lot of fun. Connect with Devon Again on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Apple Music, and Spotify.
