The Avalanches have found another way to make the past sound strange, exciting, and completely their own. Can't Get Over Loosing You takes the emotional pull of nostalgia and runs it through driving garage-rock drums, euphoric melodies, and the group’s instinct for unexpected samples. The Avalanches are questioning why certain sounds stay with us in the first place. Portraits of Tracy gives the track its emotional core, delivering vocals which give the song a personal edge beneath all the movement. Working with The Avalanches was such an awesome experience! I don’t find myself collaborating too often with peeps, but as soon as we connected it felt just right.
That idea sits at the heart of No Bad Memories, where old jingles, startup sounds, advertising, and childhood associations become material for something new. Arriving October 16 as The Avalanches’ fourth studio album, "No Bad Memories" brings together another wide-ranging cast of collaborators including Karen O, Jamie xx, Nikki Nair, Jessy Lanza, and Prentiss. Each release has revealed another side of the project, from the darker atmosphere of Blue Shadows to the restless energy of Together. Jonathan Zawada’s artwork adds another layer to the concept, matching the album’s fascination with images and sounds that become permanently attached to memory. "No Bad Memories" promises to make those familiar echoes feel different again.
