Fake Dad thrive in emotional extremes, and Third Degree burns straight through contradiction. The Los Angeles duo channel punk volatility, electro-pop gloss, and messy relationship psychology into a record. Andrea de Varona delivers lines that swing wildly between defiance and emotional surrender, over crunchy guitars crash into pulsing synths. The song exposes how easily bravado collapses once love, validation, and insecurity start bleeding together. Josh Ford and Andrea also understand how to weaponize contrast, letting sweet melodic hooks collide against lyrics loaded with obsession, hypocrisy, and self-awareness. Explaining the heartfelt conflict driving the single, Andrea said:

We really wanted to make a 2000s-inspired club jam that still had the angsty, Riot Grrrl-esque energy that has been at the forefront of Fake Dad’s performance and writing style over the past couple of years. This time, though, rather than going for all angst, all yell we wanted the crux of the song to circle back to something really vulnerable. So yes, I’m this anti-establishment, ‘calling out the man’ baddie, but also I want to be seen, and I want to be loved for all the parts of me. And the realization that maybe the nuance of my inner world makes me kind of messy and insane. Like I want to be untouchable but also really want to let my guard down and be accepted. And at the end of the day, who doesn’t feel a little crazy when it comes to love and relationships?

The sonic direction behind "Third Degree" continues Fake Dad’s growing fascination with merging electronic music culture and punk ethos into the same emotional space. Josh Ford’s perspective on modern computer music operating with the rebellious spirit once tied to early punk scenes gives the duo a sharper conceptual framework than many genre-blending acts. Upcoming performances at Santa Monica Pier 360 Fest and the Rocknite showcase at The Echo alongside Fime & Forest further reinforce their willingness to build buzz. Fake Dad is dancing directly inside emotional instability on "Third Degree." Connect with the duo on Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, Apple Music, TikTok.
