Forest Takes The Leap Before "Swan Dive" Finds The Ground

The leap happens before anyone knows whether the landing will be graceful. Forest Evolves the uncertainty within her ten-track debut album, Swan Dive. Distorted guitars collide with electronic textures, industrial undercurrents and flashes of pop clarity, sometimes moving from a whisper into full-band freefall within a few measures. Forest can pull the vocal close, then let guitar and industrial texture widen the frame until the arrangement feels ready to break. The drums keep the floor visible while processed textures and guitar layers change the size of the room above them. Forest describes the album as the release of pressure she needed:
Swan Dive is my catharsis. It’s a real exploration into where I want my sound to go, and I’m so elated that it’s finally put into the world.
The title began with a swan photograph in a hotel bathroom and grew into a symbol for attachment, loss and the frightening moment of surrender. Divine Machine, Anchor, Lay With Me, Whore & Savior and Prosthetic Stars keep changing the album’s center of gravity without losing its pulse. Producer Aaron Liebman recorded most of the album in a backyard garage studio, letting layered production replaced the more direct live tracking of Forest’s earlier work.
