Goodbyes doesn't always come from sadness, it can come from momentum. Girl Tones tap into that feeling on Leave The City. Produced by Brad Shultz of Cage The Elephant, the track barrels forward with raw emotion and scrappy confidence. Built for late-night drives and shouted choruses that refuse to stay contained the single is an open-road anthem which closes out their whirlwind year with grit, gratitude, and velocity. The song wrestles with the tension of loving where you’re from while knowing you can’t stay. Describing a push-and-pull between nostalgia and displacement, the duo share:

‘Leave the City’ is about growing pains, it plays on the idea of loving where you are from, but feeling out of place. Navigating between pain and nostalgia in a place that you simultaneously love and hate.

Sonically, “Leave The City” leans into distortion and urgency without smoothing the edges, embracing the imperfections that have become central to Girl Tones’ identity and appeal. The duo made their mark with festival appearances at Lollapalooza, Shaky Knees, Austin City Limits, and The Great Escape, while spending much of the year on the road supporting Cage The Elephant, Silversun Pickups, The Velveteers, hey, nothing, and Sunday (1994). With 2026 already lining up tours alongside Peter McPoland and Dexter and The Moonrocks, plus festival stops at Bonnaroo, Outside Days, and a return to the UK, Girl Tones aren’t slowing down.
