A jagged climb does not promise a clean horizon, only a truer view. New York duo halfway up a jagged hill introduce themselves to CEL with HUAJH, an eight-track debut that drags heaviness from despair toward renewal. Devin Gilbert and Jeb Polstein leave the edges exposed rather than smoothing the ascent. Lucy Mondello enters four songs like another weather system crossing the mountain. Post-hardcore, slowcore, and blackened-metal weight become terrain instead of a final destination. The band says:
'HUAJH' is a dynamic journey, weaving together reflective moments with driving riffs and wafts of metal. The album takes you from pain to recovery, death to life, while drawing on fantasy and nature. After years of nurturing, we can’t wait to release it into the wild. We think the world needs heavy music.
Released September 10 through VHS Records, "HUAJH" keeps changing the slope beneath its own feet. Recorded at Vinegar Hill Sound, the album was engineered and mixed by Reed Black and mastered by Matthew Agoglia. Following "Liar" and Silver Sword, the full record carries fantasy, nature, death, and recovery through one continuous ascent. The duo sound less interested in arrival than transformation, giving their foundation room to grow stranger from here.
