Growing up rarely happens quietly. On her upcoming EP Middle School Dropout, 14-year-old singer-songwriter Iris Copperman transforms personal hardship into thoughtful storytelling well beyond her years. Due April 3 via Interscope Records, the project explores the emotional turbulence of adolescence and the resilience that can follow it. Emotional clarity is most evident on the EP’s lead single Bully, which arrives alongside a striking official music video directed by Jason Lester. The visual opens with Copperman walking alone through a school hallway before discovering the word "LOSER" scrawled across her locker in red paint. From there, the video traces a series of tense classroom moments that echo the isolation described in the song’s lyrics. Copperman explained:

The whole experience of making the video for ‘Bully’ felt like a dream — getting to turn my middle school story into something real was so special to me. It wasn’t always easy to relive those memories, but it also reminded me how much I’ve grown. I hope it connects with anyone who’s ever felt bullied or alone and reminds you that things really can get better.

Copperman’s writing centers on her experiences navigating the cruelty of middle school classmates before transitioning to homeschooling. Instead of retreating from those memories, she channels them into songs built on empathy and reflection. Alongside "Bully," the upcoming EP will also include Copperman’s debut single Struggle Bus, a reflective track about navigating self-doubt and eventually arriving at acceptance. Together, the songs highlight a young artist already developing a distinctive voice rooted in honesty and emotional nuance. Step into Copperman’s story and watch the video for "Bully" now.
