The storm isn’t coming, it’s already forming and José González built it. On A Perfect Storm, González sharpens his intricate fingerpicking into a sonic embodiment of the accelerating world he’s writing about. Drawing influence from West Saharan desert blues to the muscular tension of Quicksand and the rhythmic complexity of Battles, González expands beyond hushed folk minimalism. The track begins with his signature acoustic precision, intimate, measured, deliberate, before swelling into distorted intensity. Rather than preaching solutions, González captures the vertigo of this moment in awe at technological progression colliding with anxiety about its consequences. His delivery remains calm, almost restrained, even as the instrumentation fractures around him. He describes:
'A Perfect Storm' is about how we ourselves are creating the conditions for a more and more turbulent future. Compared to natural risks, these are man-made, and therefore not random.

The escalation feels intentional. giving the contrast power to the song. "A Perfect Storm" previews his fifth studio album, Against The Dying Of The Light, arriving March 27 via Mute Records in North America and City Slang worldwide. The record, a companion in spirit to 2021’s Local Valley, explores moral philosophy, game theory, tribalism, and the narratives that shape civilization. González approaches these themes not as a lecturer, but as a concerned citizen. His upcoming U.S. tour begins April 21 in Boston, but until then follow him on FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, TIKTOK, and YOUTUBE. Stream “A Perfect Storm” now.
