Midlake return with The Calling, a driving and anthemic new single that captures both urgency and grace. Produced by Sam Evian at The Echo Lab, the record pulses with the warmth of collaboration and the patience of craft. Guest vocals from Madison Cunningham, Hannah Cohen, and Meg Lui lend the record a radiant depth, while Evian’s production preserves Midlake’s unmistakable texture. That tension, between hesitation and destiny, propels “The Calling” into Midlake’s broader exploration of hope, connection, and creative renewal. The accompanying music video mirrors that energy, translating their introspection into movement and light. Eric Pulido had to say:
Lyrically, the song has to do with my own struggle with applying myself towards a given effort; denying or embracing that which we were made to do. A driving vibe that opens up nicely with the horn section Jesse and Sam devised so perfectly.

Propulsive rhythms, cinematic reflection, and a call to creation define the band’s next chapter. The Denton, TX collective continues to refine their legacy with A Bridge To Far, their eagerly awaited sixth studio album, due November 7. The result is an album that embraces both familiarity and evolution, capturing the band’s bond two decades on. The upcoming album follows 2022’s For The Sake Of Bethel Woods, expanding on the band’s signature sound with cinematic scope and intimate conviction.
