Dreams are like fingerprints from the night before. Indie pop/folk artist Queen Quail steps into her voice with Narcissus. Born Kirstin Edwards in Milwaukee, Queen Quail took her name from spotting a “Zwergwachtel” (dwarf quail) in Berlin’s botanical garden—a small bird whose quiet focus mirrored her own shy but radiant energy. Out now, the lead single Last Night offers a gently gripping glimpse while haunting and tender look as the songs meditate on mortality and the strange weight of inhabiting a body. Inspired by solitary writing sessions during a turbulent relationship, her lyrics also bear the influence of Freud, Lacan, and philosophy—threads of memory, love, and capitalism stitched into her narratives. On “Last Night,” she recalls:

Writing these songs was my way of trying to figure out who I was becoming, and how to use my own voice without losing myself... a memory I have of being close to falling asleep and then hearing the phone ring and my mom getting the news that her father had passed away. It’s also about how hard it is to have a body, and about the dream world versus the real, embodied world.

Produced by David Thornton, mixed by Michael Kümper, and mastered by Huntley Miller, her resonant debut EP, "Narcissus" captures transformation in real time. Arriving November 18, the six-track project weaves shimmering production, raw storytelling, and intimate reflections on longing, identity, and the search for home. Across its tracks, Queen Quail embraces resilience and vulnerability, crafting music that feels both like a mirror and a map, reflecting moments of doubt while pointing toward what comes next.
