No need to jump the gun when the sound moves mountains. NYC’s gritty psych-rock disruptors The Thing return with a gripping A/B-side release. “Alive (The Sword)” and “Holy Water” serve as their the latest offering from their upcoming self-titled album, The Thing, Known for their analog-only, no-computers approach, the band doubles down on live-wire intensity with these two slow-burning yet explosive tracks. Recorded straight to tape with a reverence for the city’s garage-punk legacy and a hunger for reinvention, these songs continue The Thing’s mission of pairing DIY ethos with dynamic craftsmanship. The duality strikes with weight and with every note feeling earned Jack Bradley had to say:

It came out really organically. Same song, just different inflection.

In contrast, “Holy Water” sprawls into a six-minute opus—initially soft and spiritual, before flipping into a feverish sonic resurrection. The jazz-rooted nuance of drummer Lucas Ebeling adds a cinematic lift, transforming a single set of chords into a tale of two emotional worlds. Currently storming through Europe before locking into a July residency at NYC’s Night Club 101, The Thing continue to release "The Thing" two tracks at a time. Stream both singles now here, and follow The Thing on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Music today!
