A VHS whirs, moment rewinds, and memory blurs into meaning. The Undercover Dream Lovers return with the official video for Prom Queen. Led by Los Angeles–based musician and producer Matt Koenig, the release steps away from hazy dream-pop comfort and into a luminous, synth-forward palette of ELO-scale romance and modern indie sheen. "Prom Queen" gives dual perspectives, following an alt-punk kid dodging ceremony and a mother figure reflecting on her own crowned moment. Emotional tension drives both sound and visuals, with a glimmering meditation on youth, worth, and the stories we tell ourselves growing up. Koenig explains the song as:

A lot of the ideas came from reflecting on youth and nostalgia (late 90s / early 2000s), and pulling from nuclear family character types (kind of a Donnie Darko-ish lens). The song flips between an alt-punk kid who’d rather skip prom and hang with his friends, and a mother figure looking back on her own prom queen era. Ultimately it’s about perspective and letting go of the idea that you need to be seen or act a certain way to feel worthy or appreciated.

The result feels like a memory you didn’t realize was still shaping you. Sleek synths, ringing guitars, and weeping strings frame a deeply human core. Directed by Alex LaLiberté and Grant Spanier, the video was shot run-and-gun across Los Angeles, including the old Teen Wolf set and the Mustang Motel. Koenig continues to showcase the ability to interweave past and future, channeling millennial anxiety with a dark-edged dream-pop sensibility.
