Some songs spend decades waiting for the right voice to carry them forward. The Ettes answer that call on On The Run. This time transforming a largely overlooked Gene Clark composition into one of the most compelling moments on their newly released Passionate Liars EP. Rather than simply covering a forgotten song, the reunited garage-pop duo approaches the material with reverence and conviction, allowing its timeless songwriting to breathe through their own creative lens. Coco Hames and Maria "Poni" Silver bring a mixture of grit, melancholy, and warmth that feels perfectly suited for Clark’s reflective writing style. Echoes of classic American pop are particularly enjoyable alongside how the band trust the song’s original craftsmanship. Hames said:
Gene Clark’s music is a guiding light. There’s something so ethereal about the way he approaches his melodies and song structures – but the feeling and lyrics are always grounded in this total emotional reality. It’s an utterly unique combination.

"Passionate Liars" also serves as a statement that The Ettes' comeback is no longer a possibility—it is fully underway. Recorded at Rancho De La Luna with producer and guitarist Dave Catching, the project expands upon the momentum generated by recent releases Dangerous Girl and Not At All. Jack Lawrence adds further weight to the lineup, while Catching’s production gives the EP a wide-open character that complements both the new originals and Clark’s rediscovered treasure. Released near the anniversary of Clark’s passing, "On The Run" lands less like a tribute and more like a conversation across generations. Stay tuned to the forthcoming "Passionate Liars" album later this year and connect with The Ettes on Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Apple Music, and Spotify.
