A music scene never stands still long enough to become a museum, and Baby Wave are not interested in freezing one in place. The Nashville trio meet their reality on “The Scene Is Changing,” with their first single for Saddle Creek. book NOT brooke allows the words to sound like somebody taking inventory before the room changes again. Gardner Gottsegen and Jakob Bibb hold a steady center until the guitars open into volcanic grunge choruses. Producer Sebastian Kinsler preserves the scrape around those shifts, so the jump from slowcore patience to shoegaze pressure still feels connected to the room where it began. book NOT brooke explains:

Every scene is destined to bloom and fizzle. I think it matters to honor that cycle for what it is. When we wrote this song, it felt like a character study, but now it rings truer than ever, and it makes me emotional every time. It feels like an ode to the ever-changing Nashville DIY scene.

Baby Wave are watching a cycle change from inside it, which gives the song more weight than a complaint about the past. The video brings that idea back to Nashville DIY space Ryman 2 instead of building a cleaner version of the scene somewhere else. Impediment, McKay, Sabby, Soot, Superhero, Total Wife and Venus & the Flytraps appear throughout, turning the visual into a roll call. The trio’s 2024 joint EP still life with Total Wife already showed how naturally they work within that community. "The Scene Is Changing" widens the frame without leaving those relationships behind.
