brookelen Finds The Balance Beneath "shadow"

Written By: Big C

Some songs chase the sun; brookelen lets “shadow” stand close enough to feel what the light can burn away. Drawing from Icarus, the Los Angeles artist turns ambition into a question of balance, consequence and the cost of reaching past your own center. While the guitars widen into a scorched halo, Her vocals make intimacy and distortion feel like two sides of the same thought. While the fuzzed guitar expands the frame, those opposing textures keep pulling toward the same center. Before that larger story arrives, she explains why the old myth still feels personal:
I love mythology and astrology and maybe even demonology. I wrote this song about the story of Icarus, who flies too close to the sun and his wings melt and he perishes. It’s a reminder to find the balance. Both yin and yang. I love intimate vocals paired with fuzzed out guitars.

The single opens another door into dark side of the sun, brookelen’s October 23 EP for Soliloquy Records. Claire Morrison engineered the recording, with Pearce Gronek handling additional production and mixing. Put simply, softness leads and the noise gives it consequence. Balance here is not stillness; it is the act of keeping two forces alive without letting either disappear. The release also leads into dates at Permanent Records Roadhouse, El Cid, Trans-Pecos and DC9, giving the material room to change shape onstage.
