What is your favorite record from the 90’s and why?
Wow, right into the tough questions! I mean you’re talking about one of the greatest eras of Hip Hop/Rap and R&B ever, so it’s hard to choose one song. I’d say some of my favorite albums are Ready to Die, Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, The Velvet Rope, and the Love and Basketball soundtrack. Of course, I’m also a big fan of Tupac, Jay-Z, early DMX, Pharcyde, and Boyz II Men. It’s just too much to choose from. I’m really inspired by that decade.
If you could produce the sound track to a movie, which genre or movie would you choose?
Like I mentioned, I’m a big fan of the Love and Basketball soundtrack. So, I’d probably choose a movie like that or Space Jam. It would have to be a movie where the music plays a very critical role. Even though a good or bad soundtrack has a major impact on every film.
How would you describe your hometown sound?
I’m from just west of Chicago, but I think the city’s sound is always changing and evolving though. There’s so much great music coming out of Chicago right now. From the major stars like Lil Durk, G Herbo, Saba, to rising stars like Attack the Sound, China Shadae, and Geronimo Approved. It’s diverse in sound, but it’s creative, genuine, and soulful.
When you feel discouraged, what keeps you motivated?
I pray a lot. That’s first and foremost, but I also try my best not to take things personally. I know that everything will work out in the right time. That’s what my next EP, HOURGLASS, is all about.
Do you play or watch any sports or video games?
I watch a lot of sports. I love going to the Bulls and Sox games. I used to play a lot, but I haven’t been playing as consistently lately.
What is your favorite motivational lyric or life quote?
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me - Philippians 4:13
If you made a song for the year 3000, what do you think would be different about it?
I feel like music is starting to have less and less words. So if I was thinking of the year 3000, I would probably have a lot more electronic synths and sounds, less words, and more melodic components.
Who are you looking to collaborate with next?
There’s this guy from Canada that’s pretty good. He released a project recently, something about being a lover boy...just kidding. There’s a few people I have in mind though, I guess you’ll have to wait and see.
Spring, Summer, Fall or Winter?
Fall for sure. It’s definitely my favorite time of the year right now.
