Behind The Lens: 'Sorority Row' Makes Sisterhood Look Deadly Good In Its 4K Debut

Sisters for life sounds like a promise. Sisters for death sounds more like a warning. More than fifteen years after the women of Theta Pi learned exactly how dangerous keeping a secret could become, Lionsgate Limited is bringing Sorority Row to 4K for the first time. The 2009 horror mystery returns September 15 in a collectible 4K Steelbook edition alongside Blu-ray and Digital, sharpening up all the blood, betrayal, and glossy slasher chaos surrounding one very bad prank.

Theta Pi Has A Secret To Keep

Cassidy (Briana Evigan), Chugs (Margo Harshman), Jessica (Leah Pipes), Ellie (Rumer Willis), and Claire (Jamie Chung) are bound together by more than their Theta Pi letters. After a prank involving fellow sister Megan (Audrina Patridge) ends in tragedy, the group agrees to bury what happened and move forward with their lives.

Graduation should put the nightmare behind them. Instead, someone begins hunting the sisters one by one, turning their shared secret into the center of a bloody mystery. Directed by Stewart Hendler from a screenplay by Josh Stolberg and Peter Goldfinger, 'Sorority Row' takes the familiar slasher combination of young victims, buried secrets, and a relentless killer and drops it into a world where friendship can become just as dangerous as the person holding the weapon.

The cast also brings together several familiar faces of the era, including Julian Morris, Matt Lanter, and Carrie Fisher. Fisher's presence as Theta Pi house mother Mrs. Crenshaw gives the madness another personality entirely, adding some veteran attitude to a movie already overflowing with sharp tongues and sharper consequences.

Blood, Glamour & A New Look Behind The Film

The new release gives 'Sorority Row' a 16x9 2.40:1 presentation with English Dolby Atmos audio, but Lionsgate Limited isn't relying on the 4K upgrade alone. Four newly produced extras revisit different pieces of the film, giving its cast and filmmakers room to look back at how this particular house of horrors came together.

"Reconsidering Sorority Row" revisits the film itself, while "The Making Of A Queen B*h With Leah Pipes"** puts the spotlight on Jessica and the performance behind one of Theta Pi's biggest personalities. "Loyal Friends & Untimely Ends: Writing Sorority Row" turns toward the screenplay, while "Grit & Glamour: The Visual Design Of Sorority Row" examines the aesthetic behind its polished world and bloody destruction.

Those additions are joined by a substantial collection of legacy material, including director and cast commentary, deleted scenes, outtakes, behind-the-scenes footage, Sorority Secrets: Stories from the Set, Killer 101, Kill Switch, trailers, and other archival features. Together, the package offers both the movie audiences remember and a fresh opportunity to look behind the lens at how its deadly sisterhood was constructed.

Sisterhood Never Dies Quietly

'Sorority Row' doesn't exactly make a strong case for keeping secrets—or participating in elaborate pranks with your sorority sisters. What it does offer is a time capsule of late-2000s horror where mystery, attitude, sexuality, friendship, and increasingly bloody consequences all live under the same roof.

Now the sisters of Theta Pi get to make their return with every questionable decision and brutal consequence brought into sharper focus. After all, some friendships last forever. Some secrets apparently get remastered in 4K.
