Sometimes the loudest music grows from the quiet ache of things left unsaid. Released today, Louisiana rock quartet Cashier channel restless tension on their debut EP The Weight. Fronted by vocalist and songwriter Kylie Gaspard, the group threads emotional vulnerability through thick layers of guitar noise and driving rhythms. Across six tracks, the Lafayette-based band balances swirling distortion with sharp melodic hooks that cut through the haze. By the end of the EP, the band transforms heaviness into something strangely uplifting. On the new project, Kylie said:

There is a general sense of longing throughout the songs. Feeling like something is always off, or like you’re driving someone/something away. Yearning for what you missed because of your own choices through life, and a sense of disconnect from the reality that could have been. feel like most of the themes carry different types of weight for me or someone listening who may feel a sense of connection with the heaviness of life.

Tracks like Part From Me and Like I Do highlight the band’s ability to pair dense, shoegaze-adjacent textures with direct, emotionally honest songwriting. The title track, meanwhile, captures the bittersweet passage of time, grounding its soaring guitars in the quiet realization of how life’s choices accumulate. Together, the songs form a record that feels both reflective and explosive. Building a reputation for emotionally charged live shows, Cashier has already shared stages with artists like Dinosaur Jr., Whirr, Nothing, and Narrow Head. Experience Cashier’s debut in full as the EP captures a band learning how to turn emotional gravity into sonic power. Listen to "The Weight" and connect with them on BANDCAMP and INSTAGRAM.
