Cherry Bomb Lets "Crash!" Open "The Pursuit Of Pleasure"

Written By: Big C

If the name is Cherry Bomb, Crash! is what happens after somebody lights the fuse. Mandy Lee uses her solo project to step outside the expectations surrounding MisterWives and head directly toward The Pursuit of Pleasure. The single hits with pop immediacy, where you hear the kind of controlled impact hit. Lee gives the vocal enough attitude to make the title believable while the beat keeps the song from breaking apart during its biggest moments. That push between discipline and rebellion fits a project concerned with shame, desire, and the decision to choose yourself. "Crash!" does not summarize the full album, but it makes a strong first dent in the door. Lee traces that rebellion back to joy stating:
Joy is how we survive grief, and this project explores what it means to move through pain while still finding pleasure. This album unravels the guilt, shame and judgment we are often conditioned to carry when exploring, and it's about choosing ourselves as well as our own desires — stepping into intuition and away from all that inhibits who we truly are, not who we are expected to be.

Her ideas runs beyond "Crash!" and into songs including Never Be Me (M★ther★cker), Digital Girl, Sorry You’re Not Sorry, and Myriad Reflector. Together, the titles point toward a record that is willing to question the roles placed on women while still leaving room for fun. The Pursuit Of Pleasure arrives November 13, with a release show set for November 18 at Moroccan Lounge in Los Angeles. Before the album lands, Cherry Bomb makes her solo festival debut September 27 at All Things Go NYC at Forest Hills Stadium.
