Diana Silvers leans into allowing space for reflection. Mediation No. 1, opens on a delicate guitar figure before widening into layered harmonies and gentle percussion. Looking out over the desert landscape before a show in Santa Fe, she began writing what would become the song’s central meditation. Flute, vibraphone, cello, and tambourine drift through the arrangement like passing clouds, giving Silvers’ voice a luminous backdrop. Her delivery turns each lyric into a small meditation on endurance and compassion. Silvers had to say:

I wrote it during Jon’s soundcheck before our second night in Santa Fe. I was looking out at the vast desert sky and those purple mountains in the distance… thinking, wondering, questioning. I don’t have answers or solutions, but I have questions I’ll continue to ask through song. My hope is that through music we can find community and refuge — maybe even strength.

The release also carries a tangible purpose: proceeds from "Mediation No. 1" will support the National Immigrant Justice Center, which provides legal aid to immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. The single follows Silvers’ debut album From Another Room, a deeply personal project she wrote, produced, and largely performed herself. Since the record’s release, the New York–based artist has steadily built a reputation for pairing poetic songwriting with understated arrangements. From her breakout appearance at Newport Folk Festival to touring alongside Batiste, Silvers continues shaping a musical voice rooted in empathy and reflection.
