Fraternal Twin Search The Past For A New Halo

Halo Fell Forever moves like an old photograph learning how to breathe again. Fraternal Twin bring nostalgic influences into focus while searching patiently for a new sound. The title track chugs beneath Tom Christie’s voice, surrounding him with hazy guitars which seem to bend time. Beauty gathers, distortion waits, and clarity arrives only after the song has earned it. A phrase discovered inside improvised vocal sounds became both the song’s emotional key and the album’s name. Tom Christie, Marco Spodek, Mariah Houston, and Forrest Philpot turn wandering into architecture instead of nostalgia for nostalgia’s sake. Christie remembers why he and the band allowed something so personal to remain:
'Halo Fell Forever' was a phrase that I heard very distinctly when I played back a bunch of vocal gibberish while recording the demo for this track. It almost feels like I didn't write it—but it's one of my favorite lyrics. It takes me back to this sort of 'fall from innocence' I experienced many years ago that kind of shattered the way I saw the world for a while. I think it means something about learning from your mistakes and not worrying so much about trying to be perfect for others or who you think they want you to be.
The track closes the preview cycle for the band’s first new album in a decade, due September 4. Producer Dan Howard gives these familiar slowcore and shoegaze instincts more muscle without sanding away their mystery. The title track follows Medicine, extending that song’s long road from memory toward repair. Material written near 2016’s Homeworlding now returns through arrangements that refuse to remain trapped in the past.
